The 3.6% raise for 2027
SSA announced on 14 October 2026 that Social Security and SSI payments rise 3.6% for 2027, based on the rise in the CPI-W from the third quarter of 2025 to the third quarter of 2026. It is the largest increase since 2023's 8.7%, after 2.8% for 2026. Social Security payments rise from January 2027, and SSI from the payment on 31 December 2026. A $2,000 monthly benefit becomes $2,072.
Why the check rises by less
If Medicare Part B is taken from your benefit, the premium comes off the raised amount. The 2027 Part B premium is announced in November; it was $202.90 for 2026. SSA rounds benefits down to the dime and the payment down to the dollar. Other 2027 figures: the taxable maximum is $192,300, the earnings limit before full retirement age $25,560 ($67,920 in the year you reach it), and the SSI payment $1,029 a month for one person and $1,544 for a couple.
