The official NFL passer rating formula, broken down.
The NFL passer rating combines four factors — completion percentage, yards per attempt, touchdown percentage, and interception percentage — each scaled and clamped to a 0–2.375 range, then averaged and multiplied by 100 to produce a 0–158.3 scale.
The maximum of 158.3 (not a round number) is an artifact of the formula's design from 1973 — it wasn't intended as a 'perfect' score, just the mathematical ceiling when all four components hit their maximum of 2.375.
