IdealRange
Healthy Weight Calculator
Healthy-BMI range in both kilograms and pounds.
Healthy weight range by height
These ranges are the weights that put BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 at each height. Anything inside the range is a healthy weight by the BMI definition.
| Height | Height (ft/in) | Healthy range (kg) | Healthy range (lb) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 150 cm | 4 ft 11 in | 41.6 - 56.0 | 92 - 124 |
| 155 cm | 5 ft 1 in | 44.4 - 59.8 | 98 - 132 |
| 160 cm | 5 ft 3 in | 47.4 - 63.7 | 104 - 141 |
| 165 cm | 5 ft 5 in | 50.4 - 67.8 | 111 - 149 |
| 170 cm | 5 ft 7 in | 53.5 - 72.0 | 118 - 159 |
| 175 cm | 5 ft 9 in | 56.7 - 76.3 | 125 - 168 |
| 180 cm | 5 ft 11 in | 59.9 - 80.7 | 132 - 178 |
| 185 cm | 6 ft 1 in | 63.3 - 85.2 | 140 - 188 |
| 190 cm | 6 ft 3 in | 66.8 - 89.9 | 147 - 198 |
A range this wide covers very different body compositions. Waist measurement is often a better single indicator than weight alone. General wellness information only, not medical advice. Discuss any health decision with a qualified clinician.
A range, not a single target number
Rather than a single 'ideal weight,' this calculates the full span of weights that fall within the WHO's healthy BMI band for your height — a more realistic goal than chasing one exact number.
Why a range makes more sense
Two people of the same height can be equally healthy at different weights depending on frame size and muscle mass — a range acknowledges that natural variation better than a single figure does.
Frequently asked questions
What is a healthy weight for my height?
Multiply your height in metres squared by 18.5 (lower bound) and 24.9 (upper bound). For 170 cm (1.7 m): 1.7² = 2.89, so 53.5–72.0 kg (118–159 lbs). For 5'10" (1.78 m): 58.6–78.9 kg (129–174 lbs). This is the WHO healthy BMI range.
Is it better to be at the low or high end of the range?
Neither extreme is automatically better. Being at the low end while sedentary may mean low muscle mass. Being at the high end with regular strength training may mean healthy muscle. Research shows the lowest mortality risk is around BMI 22–25 — roughly the middle to upper-middle of the range.
Does age affect healthy weight?
Somewhat. Adults over 65 may benefit from a slightly higher BMI (23–27) — some studies show modest overweight is protective against frailty in older adults. For children and teens, age-specific growth charts replace fixed BMI ranges entirely.
