Each row runs the power-to-weight estimate this calculator uses: curb weight divided by horsepower, raised to the power 0.6, multiplied by 1.2. The vehicle labels describe typical power and weight combinations rather than specific models.

This is an empirical estimate built from power and weight alone, so treat it as a ballpark rather than a test result. It knows nothing about drivetrain (an AWD car with launch control gets far closer to the estimate than a RWD car spinning its tires), tire compound, transmission type, turbo lag, altitude or air temperature. Published 0-60 times commonly land several tenths either side of these figures, and the SUV and pickup rows in particular flatter tall, traction-limited vehicles.

The power-to-weight shortcut

A common estimate is: 0-60 time ≈ (weight/HP)^0.75 × a tuning constant. This empirical formula accounts for the diminishing returns of additional power — doubling HP doesn't halve your 0-60 time because of tire grip, aerodynamics, and drivetrain losses.

Why real-world times vary

Traction (AWD vs RWD vs FWD), tire compound, transmission type (DCT shifts faster than manual), altitude (less air = less power), temperature, and launch technique all affect 0-60 times. A 500 HP RWD car on cold tires may be slower than a 400 HP AWD car with launch control.

My car has 300 HP and weighs 3,500 lbs — how fast is the 0-60?

Roughly 5.3-5.5 seconds using the power-to-weight formula. Real-world results depend heavily on drivetrain (AWD launches faster than RWD), tires, and transmission type. Use the horsepower calculator to verify your HP figure first.

Does weight matter more than horsepower for acceleration?

Both matter equally in the power-to-weight ratio. Removing 100 lbs from a 3,000 lb car improves acceleration by about 3.3%, while adding 10 HP to a 300 HP car improves it by about 3.3%. The ratio is what counts.

Why is my actual 0-60 slower than this estimate?

This estimates the physics-limited best case. Real launches lose time to tire slip, imperfect shifts, turbo lag, traction control intervention, and reaction time. AWD cars with launch control come closest to the theoretical estimate.
