Width × height = how many megapixels?
A 6000×4000 image has 24 million pixels, or 24 megapixels — the calculation is simply width × height divided by one million, with the aspect ratio found by reducing the dimensions to their simplest ratio (6000:4000 = 3:2).
Beyond about 20MP, the marginal benefit of more pixels depends entirely on your use case — larger prints and heavy cropping benefit, but for social media or web use, a 12MP phone camera produces more resolution than the output medium can display.
