Annual salary converted to hourly, weekly and monthly pay

Each row divides an annual salary across a standard full-time year of 40 hours a week and 52 weeks. These are gross figures, before tax and deductions.

The rough shortcut for a 40-hour week is to halve the hourly rate and read it as thousands: $25 an hour is about $50,000 a year. It runs about 4% high, because 40 x 52 is 2,080 hours rather than the 2,000 the shortcut assumes. Everything here is gross pay - tax, national insurance or FICA, pension contributions and health premiums all come out afterwards, so take-home is materially lower. Biweekly pay means 26 cheques a year, not 24, so a biweekly figure is not simply half the monthly one. Change the hours and weeks fields if you work part-time or take unpaid leave.

Gross vs. net

This tool shows gross pay (before tax and deductions). Net pay depends on your country, state, deductions, and pre-tax contributions like 401(k) or health insurance.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert hourly wage to annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by 2,080 (40 hours/week × 52 weeks). So $25/hour = $52,000/year before taxes. If you work fewer hours, adjust accordingly: 30 hours/week × 52 weeks × $25 = $39,000.

How do I convert salary to hourly rate?

Divide your annual salary by 2,080. A $75,000 salary ÷ 2,080 = $36.06/hour. This assumes 40 hours/week. If you regularly work 50 hours/week but are salaried, your effective hourly rate is lower: $75,000 ÷ 2,600 = $28.85/hour.

How many work hours are in a year?

A standard full-time year is 2,080 hours (40 hours × 52 weeks). After subtracting typical US paid time off (10 holidays + 15 vacation days = 25 days), actual working hours are about 1,880. Some calculations use 1,920 (assuming 10 holidays only).
