The split uses the FLSA 40-hour weekly threshold; California and several other states also pay daily overtime after 8 hours in a shift, so a 10, 6, 8, 8, 8 week totalling 40 can still contain overtime there. Union contracts and non-US rules differ again. Overtime is calculated per workweek, not per pay period, so run each week of a biweekly period separately.

Total: 9 + 8 + 10 + 7 + 8.5 = 42.5 hours. Under the standard 40-hour threshold, 40 hours are regular and 2.5 hours are overtime. At $25/hr with 1.5× OT, that's 40 × $25 + 2.5 × $37.50 = $1,093.75 gross.

Does overtime always kick in after 40 hours per week?

This calculator uses a weekly 40-hour threshold. For biweekly periods, track each week separately — the FLSA calculates overtime per workweek, not per pay period, so 35 hours one week and 45 the next still means 5 hours of overtime.

What if I work a salaried job — does overtime still apply?

It depends on your classification. Salaried employees classified as 'non-exempt' under the FLSA still qualify for overtime. The exemption depends on salary level (currently $684/week minimum) and job duties, not simply being paid a salary.
